Description
I've been taking some cake decorating classes, but this is the most ambitious cake I have tried so far. This cake took me about a week to complete, and I'm really pleased with the result. It's a yellow cake, and I baked the 2 halves of the sphere in a cake pan made for balls so that it would be completely round. It is iced with honey butter cream icing, then I covered it with fondant cut into hexagons and pentagons. (I learned that you can't cover a sphere with just hexagons, who knew?) The bees and beekeepers are made out of gum paste with a little bit of fondant on each, and the "honey" is actually piping gel colored with icing color. The only non-edible things on the cake are a few toothpicks I used to hold the bees on the moon and to hold a beekeeper together. It's a yummy cake, tho I was sad to have to cut in to it so soon!
