Description
My Grandma Jackie and I look for occasions to make cakes. We make elaborate birthday and holiday desserts for our whole family. She has a lot of baking experience and I'm an art major, so the two of us make an excellent team.
We didn't have regular layer cake pans, so we baked the layers in her cooking pots. It worked beautifully! We used box mix cakes, roll-out fondant, and marzipan. Vodka mixed with food coloring made a lovely paint.
I loved the Flamenco shirt because the flamingo legs reminded me of spilled water colors. So, I ran with that.
We started on Saturday evening and finished around 8pm Sunday night. We took our time and were fairly casual about it. No stress.
We wanted to use an edible support system, so we decided on hard candy sticks. They worked very well also giving the cake some added flavor (and color).
It was a big success, visually. And it tasted great too!
