Nature Photography cake by Cat Larabie

Description

I absolutely love this print,I'm definitely buying it! This print is very ME. I'm always taking pictures of everything especially nature. The print was amazing by itself but I tweaked it :)

First I used a chocolate cake, cut it in the shape of a camera- pretty basic, because it was just a square with rounded corners and a bit sticking out from the front for the lens. I cut a small circle of cake with a cookie cutter and did the same process for the lens. Also using the cookie cutters I cut out 3 circles for the buttons on top. I decided to do a closed lens rather than an open one. After that, I crumb iced it and covered with marshmallow fondant. I hand painted half of it in black food coloring. I let it dry a full day before painting the top part with a bit of silver luster dust and vodka. I stuck the lens on by sticking a few spaghetti sticks and pressing it into the cake.

Tweak #1: I then started the vines, with my trusty array of colors, I made a wicked shade of green and cut out some leaves, embossed them and set them to dry. The next day, I did the vines with the same green and enough shortening to pass through my sugar-craft gun, no way I was going to do those little vines by hand! Too tedious for my patience.. I started wrapping them around the camera. When I thought there were enough I started sticking the leaves onto them.

Tweak #2: The butterflies, the wings are made out of gum paste and I airbrushed them with red, yellow and orange, then I let them dry a few hours and painted on some black design, I couldn't perfect that pattern if my life depended on it LOL and I give props to the one who did in the first entries (your cake is sick):) continuing now...:) the bodies are made of those banana shaped candies wrapped in black fondant. There are pieces of spaghetti in the wings so I could get it thru the body and onto the cake. Oh yeah and the antennas are also spaghetti covered in fondant.

Tweak#3: The lady bug - is a ball of red fondant with hand painted dots. I also just covered a bit of the cake board with some pale beige fondant and rolled little balls of brown fondant and stuck them on, then I used my rolling pin to flatten them to get the cobble stone effect.
