Together Again cake by Clanci Ferguson

Description

As soon as I saw this design come up a couple of weeks ago I knew I wanted to make it....who can say no to Muppets!!

I decided to make a couple of cakes in a loaf tin and cut the rectangles out of them. This also meant I was able to make some different flavoured cakes. I decided on a passionfruit butter cake as I have heaps of home grown passionfruit pulp from my parents in my freezer, and I couldn’t go past a rich mud cake. The flaw in this well thought out plan was that I only had one loaf tin and with each cake taking over one hour to bake it was a very long day of waiting for the cakes to be ready and cooled down so I could cut them.

While waiting I coloured all my fondant for the character colours as well as smaller coloured amounts for the decoration.

When the cakes were both cool I was able to cut them all, and they ended up with relatively the same dimensions. I decided not to glaze/ice them prior to the fondant layer…the one thing I really regret as it left the surface not as smooth as I would have liked (and I was lazy and didn’t do a double fondant layer).

With the cakes cut and covered in the fondant it was time for fun. So sitting in front of the TV with my cakes, all my different colours of fondant, numerous shapes for cutting and a picture of the t-shirt design I tried to recreate it as well as I could…while batting away a cat that seems to have got a taste for fondant!!

When they were all put together on a white tray they looked pretty good. The following day they came to work and were enjoyed by all…I think I may be doing some kids birthday cakes in the coming months!!
