Description
After going through the design page numerous times, I decided to go with Reel Passion. I chose this one because I thought I could be more creative with it. I wanted to try to design something of my own, but still have the main t-shirt design pop out. And to be honest, I really wanted to try to make popcorn out of fondant!
Whenever I had some free time, I started working on pieces that could be done in advance, like the popcorn, the movie reel, the face, and the tickets. All of these were made out of fondant, except for the face, which was done using different colors of Candy Wafers.
After all of those pieces were finished, I baked the 3 cakes and put them in the refrigerator overnight. I find them easier to cut while they're cold. The two round tiers were yellow cake filled with raspberry jam and a Swiss Meringue Buttercream. The bottom square was a chocolate cake filled with the same buttercream. The next day I took them out of the fridge and started putting it together! Once I got each tier covered in fondant and stacked, I wrapped the black fondant around the cake for the movie reel. I then cut out white fondant squares, placed them on, and then piped the white dots above and below the squares to finish the reel. For the curtains on the bottom, I rolled out red fondant into little ropes and placed them together. Using a ball tool, I cut out the fondant with a circle cutter, cut it in half, and then rubbed the edges with the ball tool to give it a little ruffled look, and placed them around the top. After that, I just "glued" the rest of the pieces on using buttercream, and it was done!
It probably took about 20 hours or so with everything combined. I had a blast making it and loved how it came out!
