This is my second Threadcakes entry and I seem to be addicted to this contest. After my first cake was made (“Cute Animals Smoking Cigarettes”), I realized that there was no way I was going to be able to eat all of that cake. So what better option than to make yet another Threadcakes entry out of it! I decided to make a new cake using only leftover supplies from my first entry.
Ghostbusters has always been one of my favorite movies, so I chose “Something Strange in Your Beverage” for my recycled cake. I began by cutting out a mug shape from my first cake. Then I frosted it using some of the gray icing leftover from my original entry. I covered it in leftover fondant and then iced the top in chocolate frosting. To make the Ghostbusters logo, I printed out a template from my computer and cut out the basic shape in gumpaste. Then I painted in the details using petal dust mixed with a little bit of vodka (I use vodka instead of water because it doesn’t get as goopy and dries a lot faster). Next up was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. I made him out of fondant which was also painted with petal dust. Finally I added the steam coming out of the mug by inserting wires that are usually used to create stems for gumpaste flowers.
I thought this Threadless design was hilarious and it ended up looking really good in cake too!
