Description
Although I am now a professional cake designer, my love for Threadless predates my time in the cake industry, so naturally I was very excited to hear about the "Threadcakes" contest! I choose "The Fox Confessor" as my design, because I loved the whimsical look of it, and all the intricate details that it encompassed.
From start to finish, my cake took about 20 hours to create, spread out over about 4.5 days. My friend Ben baked the cake for me, since I have no talent for baking. You can see his arm in the baking photo. We just baked our traditional Tahitian vanilla cake for this project, with buttercream icing and fondant. I used 7 total layers of cake, and carved it by hand to achieve the shape I wanted. Then, I covered it with white fondant, and textured and painted it by hand. The flowers were also hand-crafted from sugarpaste to match the original image. The fox's head was made from rice cereal treats, sculpted with a knife and covered in white chocolate. The only inedible part is the central PVC support and the wires holding the flowers to the cake.
I had so much fun making this cake, and when I brought it to a small get-together that I had, my friends couldn't believe it was cake! Everyone, even the cat, had such a fun time eating it (and rearranging the flowers).
