The Time Has Come cake by Samantha Friday

Description

Okay, Okay, yes some might say I am being a bit greedy here by entering another cake - but this it it! I promise! I'm caked out! Well it only comes once a year after all and who knows where I will be or what I will be doing next year so...gotta make the most of it right??

My friend liked this design and I thought it would be cool to try and do it in chocolate - so I did - death by chocolate - chocolate cake with super-rich chocolate icing and of course the detail in chocolate. My conclusion is that chocolate is not an easy medium to work with! In any case, I gave it my best shot and got to use my gun-shaped ice cube tray! it took only about a day to complete.

So I baked the cake and basically just used wax paper as a sort of stencil - I drew the shapes onto it and then filled in the lines with chocolate, stuck them in the freezer for a few minutes to firm and stuck them onto the cake.

For the gun I wanted to make it come out in actual 3D so I used chocolate clay/modeling chocolate to make the hand and inserted a chocolate gun from the ice cube mould I had. Unfortunately the mould was only one-sided so only one side of the gun has the detail. The effect didn't work out as well as I had hoped but mainly due to my inexperience with handling chocolate. Oh well - better luck next time? lol
