Description
I first found out about threadcakes a couple years ago and decided that this year it was time fo me to participate. After looking through all the decigns I decided to go with picket, both because I really liked that design and thought that it could lend it self to a cake that I could make despite a somewhat undeveloped cake decorating skill set. I baked four 9 inch round devils food cakes and two different sized ractangle devils food cakes. Because I grossly overestimated the cake needed for the house I ended up not using the larger of the two rectangle cakes. The icing is vannilla butter cream and I used homemmade marshmallow fondant to cover the cake.
Tho make the house I mashed together cake crumbs and icing and formed it into the shape of a house and covering it with fondant (it is basically a super elaborate cake pop).
This cake ended up being a lot more trouble than I thought it would be. I didn't start it until about a week before the deadline and combined with a really busy work week and moving by the end it turned into more of a chore to finish it than something to do for fun. I have now started a cake in one state and finished it in another.
Since it took so long to complete the cake had gotten a little stale when we finally cut into it.
Finally thanks must be given to my eight year old sister who helped me dye some of the fondant and made the bushes for me
