Gold Rush! cake by Anna Stokłosa

Description

I decided to give it a try and enter in the Threadcakes competion, which I followed for two years. I am just starting my adventure with baking and decorating. I chose the Gold Rush design because, well, I really really liked it.

I baked a dense chocolate cake - my own original recipe - which I then cut in smaller discs and stacked to get a small, tall round cake. It's layered witch chocolate buttercream and covered with milk chocolate ganache - very yummy thing! Completely edible, too.

My boyfriend was helping me with the creative process and decorations. We both enjoy sculpting, so the scene seemed perfect for us to sculpt out of modelling chocolate. Sadly, where we live (Poland) it's impossible to get many ingredients (like light corn syrup required to make modelling chocolate or white marshmallows to make MMF), so we failed to prepare our prefered sculpting medium. Instead, we fashioned the decorations from homemade fondant - not very good for sculpting. We made two carts, two horses, one mule and some folks with picks. The trash stuff is also made with fondant. We made the backdrop 'sky' from colored white chocolate and used golden sprinkles to do the gold vein on the bottom. It took us two days to complete.

It was indeed delicious and got devoured by our friends. The sky disappeared particularly quickly:)
