Description
It took me FOREVER to finally pick a design to make in cake. I could not make up my mind and then finally Wednesday I found the Sushi design and I knew that was the one.
I started with a ¼ sheet cake. I used a ¼ board and covered it in green fondant. Cut out another board for the table top that was about 4X6 and used it as a template to cut out the cake that would become the board. I also cut out the table legs and the 3 rice squares.
I put all the cut pieces of cake in the fridge to firm up, crumb coated them, and then back into the fridge to firm up again. I covered everything with fondant and then began assembly.
The legs were placed on the base board, dowelled and then I placed the table top on it. I made the salmon, shrimp and tuna out of colored fondant. I added them to the rice squares before adding the rice.
For the rice I rolled out fondant into a long thin rope. I cut it into little pieces and then shaped them individually into little pieces of rice. IT TOOK FOREVER! I decided not to cover the entire patty with the rice because the picture does not detail all the little pieces of rice on the patties, just shows little pieces for texture.
I added all the pieces of rice to the patties and then placed them on the table top. I added the faces and the little hands/feet. And Viola sushi cake!
