Rose Marry cake by Nini Braxton

Description

Oh, Rose Marry! I really like this t-shirt design because it reminded me of an old school tattoo. Maybe it was the roses. I could totally see this chica tattooed on somebody.

Anyway, it took me weeks to complete this cake--seriously! I tried a royal icing transfer of the design. Didn't like it. I then tried to do it as a chocolate painting. Didn't like that either. I tried carving it in fondant and then hand painting. Really didn't like that. I threw away so many doggone cakes and fondant in the last three weeks...

I ultimately decided to go a different route since the cake didn't have to be picture perfect--although that's what I was going for initially. So, here is my girl Rose Marry atop a cake. I made the decorations tatoo-ish (see above). :-) The top tier of the cake is white cake with vanilla butter cream. The bottom tier is two layers of white cake and one layer of chocolate, filled with caramel coffee butter cream. The white cake is scratch and the chocolate cake is a mix. I started off doing scratch cakes (my preference), but that got old quickly. (Again, see above--lol.)

I used yummy chocolate sticks in lieu of dowels for support and all decorations are gumpaste and fondant, some homemade MMF and some Duff and Fondx. (I had lots of fondant remnants from tossed cakes.) Rose has a few spaghetti sticks inside for support.

Thanks for looking. Buh bye!!
