Day of the Dead Panda

Second threadcakes entry, going for structurally simple and technically difficult.

I was feeling a little bit lazy this year, so I went for a box mix. Since it's a panda, I went for a black and white cake. Since traditional round pans tend not to have panda ears, I made cakepop mix from the off-cuts for the ears.

Once the whole thing was cut and covered, I laid out the pattern over the cake and made some reference point pinpricks in the fondant to make sure I didn't go off in the wrong direction.

Next I grabbed a black food colouring pen and did the outlines, before filling the whole thing in with painted-on airbrush colour. By the end of it, my eyes and back were killing me, but it looked damn good.


I don't care for giving box mix cake to people (I've got a reputation to uphold), so no happy eating pictures for this one.
