Ok, so I decided to multi-task here. Needed to make a lemon flavored cake for an office birthday party, so why not this cute yellow design? I am originally a fondant and gumpaste girl, but that's a little much for my office. They loooove buttercream and I aim to please!
My goal this summer has been to come up with a few ways to make buttercream more exciting to me. My new favorite technique is an image transfer using wax paper, perfect for an image that you want to remain very similar to the original. I piped the design onto my wax paper, froze and transferred it onto a 10" round. I know it's not as crazy as most of the cakes here (I plan to do another entry that fits in better) but it's delicious, 100% edible, and easy to serve at an informal party.
To incorporate the image even more, I made a homemade card with the image "Rudio" by Javier Gonzalez Delgado on the front that read, "A Little Birdie told us..." inside said " It's your Birthday" and " Now everybody knows!, Happy Birthday!" there were also pictures of little clip art birds so we could all sign next to the birds ans write cute messages to the birthday boy. It was a big hit and a fun way to tie in this image on the cake and the card.
We all dig in and enjoyed some zesty lemon cake, but no one else wanted to be in the pictures! So you are stuck with watching me eat it! Jokes on you...
