Description
I have wanted to enter threadcakes competition for a long time, and I decided to enter this year competition. When I browsed through the pictures, the sushi t-shirt really caught my eyes, because I had made this cake before for my friend but didn’t take any pictures in the process of the making of the cake. So I decided to remake this cake and documented all the steps.
I used fondant to make all the sushi. First I mold the 3 sushi and I made all the tiny rice. I needed to make sure that the rice looks like the real one; both end of the rice needs to be a little pointy. I took about 2 hours to make the rice. Then I started to put the rice on the sushi using water and leaving some space for the Tuna sashimi, salmon and shrimp.
For the salmon, I use the back knife to create the line and brush a tiny color of red below the lines and orange color above the lines. I put tiny hands on the tuna and used edible black pen to create the eyes and mouth. I wanted to make sure the tiny white dots looks exactly like in the picture. So I positioned it exactly like in the sushi t-shirt.
For the salmon, I painted the line with white food coloring. Put hands and tiny white dots.
For the shrimp, I made the tail by using my knife and painted it. For the lines, I painted with red food coloring. And put tiny white dots, and drawn hands and mouth.
I also cut the “Z” with white fondant. from small, medium and large.
After I’m done with the sushi, I baked the cakes. I’m making a chocolate cake using 18 x 18 cm cake pan. Then I cut the cake to fits the 3 sushi lying horizontally. I covered the cake with buttercream then fondant. And cover the base with green fondant. I placed the 3 sushi on the top of the cake, placed the “Z” word on the top and its done!
I attached some of the previous sushi cake that I made. The difference between this one and the last time is I make a larger sushi this time.
I cut a tiny slice of the cake because I don’t have the heart to cut my sushi especially remembering the making of the tiny tiny rice!
