Summer Wind cake by Amy Head

Description

I stumbled upon this site through the Cake Journal blog. Baking is something really new to me but it sounded like fun! This is the 5th cake I have ever baked so I was kind of excited. :) I didnt want to get in too deep so I started with a packaged cake and icing, chocolate, of course! The cake is 10in round, single layer, with a chocolate crumb coat. I made the fondant from scratch with some icing sugar and marshmallows, tinted with gel coloring. I chose pink and purple because its what I had on hand. I used a fondant cutter to make the flowers and added some edible silver balls to the centers. To make the face I printed a black and white version of the shirt design, cut it out and made a slight impression in the fondant. I then used a paring knife to cut it out. Not easy. I wouldnt recommend it. lol I placed the face on the cake by brushing some water on it to help it stick, added the flowers and some more balls. Done. :)
