Description
This is the design that spoke to me the most. It took me 3 days to finish. 1 day to bake and freeze. 1 day to assemble and frost and about 7 hours last night decorating. I used 2 boxes of butterscotch cake mix and one box of orange (yeah, I know...It was all I had on hand).....One of the cakes completely broke apart while I was trying to remove from the pan. So, I was stuck with one butterscotch layer and one orange layer. Those two flavors don't really go together too well.
Nonetheless, I froze them and cut into "steps" frosted with a can of vanilla frosting and then made a batch of marshmallow fondant. Structurally, I was having some problems stacking so I ended up cutting wedges of cake to prop the steps up.
I rolled a layer of fondant and with a scraper used Wilton black icing mixed with some vanilla extract to make the black lines.
Then I decorated each gym shoe with frosting and fondant painted with the icing/extract mixture to get the glossy black effect. Making the shoes was my favorite part.
Then I painted the black fondant covering the shoes was painted to have glossy effect. The pic in black and white looks best to mimic the original design. The cake smelled wonderful with all the vanilla extract. Tasted pretty good too, cake was moist. The icing had a bitter finish due to the icing/extract. Thank you!
