Magic Mushrooms

I made this cake for my boyfriends LAN party. I made 208 petit fours to make up the mushroom and give it the 8-bit Nintendo feel. The red ones were made from red velvet cake with rum icing; the white ones are white cake with lemon icing; the brown ones were devil's food with chocolate bark coating. It was the perfect party snack because people could just grab a few and go back to gaming. There was no messy frosting or a need to cut the cake and put it on plates. It took me 3 days to put this together. The first day was spent baking the millions of mini loaf cakes it took to put this together. I cut them, frosted the tops (to even out the surface) and stuck them in the freezer to get hard. A few hours later, I dipped the devil's food cakes in the chocolate bark and let them dry. The second day, I dipped the white and red velvet cakes. It took all day for them to dry. The third day, I assembled the design. (I guess in reality it took me 4 days. I had to design the cake so that I knew how many of each color to make.)
