Hairspray cake by Jacqui McNamara

Description

Well the hardest part is choosing the design, This one I loved. I decided I wanted the hair to pop off the cake. First I got the cakes sorted, so I made 4 squares (Pics show 3 but I had to add another).
I cut all in half and stacked into a rectangle standing cake. The hardest part was the hair, I printed the design, blew it up a bit and made some hair piece templates. They needed to dry in the right shape for the cake so while the gumpaste was still wet I stuck gently to the cake while it had only its ganache coating and let them dry there - Yay, it worked.
Once dry I gently removed them and let them dry further.
The next day I airbrushed them black with a little bit of shimmer and let them dry again.
I used rice bubble mix to shape the arm on a skewer, held together with a bit of modelling choc as it wanted to fall apart on me! then covered in fondant, same deal with the hairspray bottle, I then attached with some gumpaste i melted in microwave (hadnt tried this before but knew I needed something really strong to hold and it worked :)
The cake got covered in fondant and I attached a face (Made out of fondant on bench, got so consumed didnt get a pic, took about 3 goes but ended up making a nose, mouth and eye shape then put thin cover of fondant over the top so could see shape through) Painted the face and started to attach the hair with melted chocolate. The arm went in the side with the skewer it was built on and I added the red fingernails and small piece of foam cut to try and resemble the spray. All in all took worked over a week here and there where I could (Have 6 mth bubby so just had to get in the kitchen when I could!) Well enjoyed by my 14 yr old son :)
