The Motive cake by Mim Lea

Description

I am very thankful for this competition for supplying a brief respite from the vault of unbearable torment that is unemployment.

I am not thankful for the unusually unreasonably hot sudden onslaught of summer. We don't do AC here - no need for expending upon something that is usually only necessary for roughly 1.5 days per year. This led to some very fast-drying fondant.

The cake is Our Blessed Saint Delia of Norwich's very own sponge recipe, with raspberry jam and butter icing filling. Decoration is pretty much all fondant, with a bit of royal icing, and a bit of flowerpaste. In aiming and succeeding in using no non-edible support, and this being my first 'sculpted' cake, I have learned the effects of weighty fondant and gravity! My poor robot thing is a wee bit shorter than it started as!

I really liked the shirt when I first found it, and now I love it. That's no mean feat given the amount of grumbling that arose from seemingly endlessly plaiting the fastest drying fondant in the West.
