Description
Having looked through the designs at www.threadcakes.com/all this little beauty caught my eye and I started thinking how great it would look in 3D...
The cake itself is a plain vanilla sponge sandwiched together with butter icing. The royal icing was coloured in three shades of grey (I still have stained hands from mixing the colour in) to match the roses on the original design. I used a child's toy to extrude the icing out in long thin strings - it would normally be used for Play Doh or similar and icing is the same sort of consistency so it worked even better than I expected.
The butterfly itself was the hardest bit and I went through about five different versions before settling on simple orange icing and a light dusting of lustre powder to give it some sparkle :)
The eggs for the cake were supplied by my own chickens, and although they won't get to have any cake they were amply rewarded with spinach and sweetcorn!
