Clown Car Crash

After viewing the plethora of designs I settled for the dead clowns. What intrigued me about the design were the colors; in that hot pink and kelly green kinda made a fashion statement. I guess the fact that the clowns are all dead sort of takes away from the whimsical aspect of it, but nevertheless I loved carving the cake (my first car cake) and the motionless clowns. The car is made of vanilla pound cake (Ina Garten's recipe) slathered in a rich vanilla bean icing. The clowns are a mix of gumpaste and fondant. Took me a few hours to carve, ice and decorate the cake. The clowns took longer...much longer.
