Description
After viewing all the wicked, wonderfully designed cakes on threadcakes, I was inspired by the displayed work entered by the talented cake artists. I thought I would give it a try and take on the challenge. I must say the term challenge is an understatement. The design that I choose is called Hipster Zeus. I choose this designed because it caught my attention. Also, I was excited to take on the challenge and I had never sculpted a face before.
I baked a vanilla cake using a 12 in round pan. After I baked the cake, I let it sit in the freezer for 24hrs. I cut, carved, and filled it with buttercream icing. Then, I crumb coated it with cake crumbs. Cake crumb coating is a combination of cake scraps and buttercream icing, mix the two until it has a resemblance of mush. After that I let it set in the freezer for an hour. Also, I made marshmallow fondant and white chocolate clay and combined the two, to cover the cake.
Now to the nitty gritty, I made the spectacles out of gumpaste and let it dry over night. I formed the face using fondant. Also, I covered Hipster Zeus in fondant as well. The most difficult step in creating this cake was the hair. It took me over 3hrs to add each individual fondant strand to the face. Ooooweee, I didn’t think I was going to finish. It felt like eternity. After I applied the last strand, I was all smiles. Then I used my airbrush to color the cake. YESSSS!!!!! I’m finally finished. Now, all done and time to slice and eat the cake. I hope you enjoy :-}
