Description
The Competition fell within Halloween so I just had to make a spooky black cat with sharp fangs for my first ever entry on Threadcakes.
The cake itself was polenta and lemon with a vanilla butter cream. The cake was supported by a rod bolted to a slate board. I began by sculpting the bottle and smoke around the rod with white fondant. Carved the head from cake and covered it in fondant, with details then being sculpted directly onto the fondant layer. Texture was applied to the fur and snout. Tongue was sculpted and applied along with a set on sharp gnashes. The head was then placed on a smaller board and attached to the "body" of the cake. I then built layers of fondant smoke to cover the gap between the cake and "body".
The cake was hand painted with black food colouring for the fur, pink tongue and green bright eyes.
The entire cake from baking to finish took 4 hours... It took 5 minutes to cut and eat
