Description
This is my FIRST Threadcakes entry! I've been wanting to enter for a while, but kept on missing the deadlines! And this one almost didn't make it either :)
I was drawn to this design right away as I have some sort of attraction over blue bird.. Might be because of "They Might Be Giants" song, "Birdhouse in Your Soul." My blue bird of friendliness...
It took me forever to get the things together. It spread over a good few days, as I worked on the design little by little. I have two little boys and between 9pm-the wee hour is my time to do my cake.
I made double chocolate cake as my "tree trunk" and dusted with some edible petal dust to age the tree. The bird is made of a mix of 50/50 gumpaste and fondant. The needle was supported by floral wires. Headphone's curve is also from floral wire covered in gumpaste. It was harder than I thought it would be to make it as close as the design. I love this bird! Thank you for looking.. and MASSIVE thank you for Threadcakes for this AWESOME contest! It's 2:45 am PST here in Vancouver, and I think I am gonna have another slice :)
