Share in an Adventure

This year my Threadcakes entry doubled as my sons' birthday cake. He wanted a cake with a Lord of the Rings or Hobbit theme. "Share an Adventure" was the perfect choice. I made Gandalf first. He's marzipan with a gum paste beard. My son loves chocolate cake, so I baked two 8" and one 12" round chocolate cakes. I really only needed one of the 8" rounds. I used the 12" as the base, and cut the 8" in half and stacked the halves to make the hill for the hobbit hole. The cakes are covered in a buttercream crumb coat and green fondant. The decorations are marzipan, gum paste and fondant. My son chose the hobbit hole door as his birthday slice!
