Eat Hardy cake by Mary Burroughs

Description

While perusing the thousands of designs, Eat Hardy caught my eye. Well it could have probably been my rumbling tummy and the delicious looking design... This is my 4th year entering the Threadcakes contest and my 7th cake entered overall. This cake was really fun to make and at the end I wanted to eat a hardy breakfast. Overall it took me 12 hours from start to finish to create.

To begin, I created a paper template of each of the food pieces. Next I made and colored the fondant to match each of the pieces of food. Then I started my 9 hour journey of creating tasty looking food out of sugar...mmmmmm. To make the eggs I rolled out white fondant, cut out the egg white shape, added a yellow yolk and used a black edible marker to add an outline. Next I rolled out red fondant and cut and shaped my coffee mug. I used a black edible marker to add accents to the mug. Next I made the toast. I shaped the bread, rolled out the crust with my pasta roller and added the melted butter. To make the sausage I rolled brown fondant unto sausage shapes. Next I made the orange slices. To make the orange slices I mixed together yellow and orange fondant into a log, wrapped it in white fondant, shaped the log into a tear-drop shape, placed eight tear-drop logs together and wrapped it all in white and orange fondant. I used sewing thread to cut the finished orange slices. The next step in my tasty sugary breakfast journey was to make some bacon! I twisted together red and white fondant and used my pasta roller to blend the fondant together. I then shaped the fondant to look like bacon. Mmmmm....Next I made the syrup bottle by cutting out the bottle shape, adding blue highlights and finishing off with a black edible marker. The second to last food item was some hash browns. I used my clay extruder to cut the tiny strips of fondant to form the hash brown patty. The last food item I made was waffles. I cut the waffle shape out of fondant and used an exacto knife to cut the square shapes. I also made syrup out of piping gel.

After all the breakfast items were made, it was time to bake the cake. I baked a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. Check out my time lapse to see how I assembled the cake! Thanks for looking at my entry!
