The Red Deer

I’ve been thinking about doing a 2-D version of this design for a few years. I started with 12” rounds of chocolate cake layered with buttercream and covered it in chocolate ganache and Duff fondant that I died cornflower blue. I painted the yellow streaks with food coloring. Then I started cutting out the basic shapes from fondant and used my new airbrush to create the shading. I slowly layered on the background pieces, the mountains and the moon. I splattered parts of the cake with food coloring. I cut out the colored trees and airbrushed them. I then cut out the deer from fondant, painted and airbrushed it. I placed the deer on and painted more details. Then came lots and lots of white and yellow dots. I brought it to work for a delicious treat! This was a fun design to transform into cake.
