Description
I just loved her colors. That's really all that was needed to draw me in. I saw what food mediums I could use to replicate her almost instantly. And If you know me, you know confectioners wafer and gelatin were the first things I went to.
I printed her out HUGE first and drew out her structure. I knew I wanted the bottom to be cake as well as her head. Structure assembled, and 8 deep cakes baked (half yellow cake, half chocolate), I set off to ganache, carve, and ganache again.
I used RKT (rice Krispie Treats) for the smaller 3D decor (the head shell, the fish, and the base to the wafer coral). Just about everything was finished in modeling chocolate. Especially her face. This was the first time I've sculpted a bust and it wasn't easy.
She was sprayed with food color as she began 100% white except the lower portion of her body and a few strands of hair. I didn't use an airbrush, I opted for a broader coating PreVal sprayer. The particulates are much bigger which was fine for this project. It coated much quicker and since the particles were larger they didn't travel through my home like an airbrush does... I had no ventilation. FUN!
The majority of my time was spent sculpting her face and frilling the gelatin. From baking to photographing, she took about 35 hours to complete - a new record of efficiency for me! She was fun to make. And to eat, as evidenced by the final picture of my littlest digging in!
And I HAD to shout out to my favorite show and give her a TWD style "death". ;)
