The Red Story cake by Lyndsay Smitke

Description

I chose the red story because I am very new to cake sculpting and have never created a bust cake with a full face. This was way more difficult that I anticipated and wasn't even going to submit this entry as I really didn't like the outcome, but this is how us artists learn, so here it is.

I started with a wood base, a flange, adapter and pvc pipe. I stacked the cake on the structure and carved off access cake to shape our ladies head etc. This is where my learning really began! I wanted to try using smbc instead of ganache, so I attempted to use mike mcarreys method in creating her lips....and failed. So I decided to cover her in fondant and then add her lips. (mouths sure are tricky!)

I then added her bangs, and started adding the rest of her hair, and started adding some color. I used airbrush colors and to paint on her lips and hair. Her eyes were done the same way.

Once her hair was complete, I could add her red hood. I am happy that I attempted this cake because like I said, I truly learned a lot and cant wait for my next bust cake to learn more.
