Description
Hi! This is my first Threadcakes entry and I picked Le Passage des Morts Nouveaux months ago because it was the first design that caught my eye and thought that it was a good design for the season.
I started with baking one 14x10" rectangle butter pound cake and filled it with chocolate ganache. as for the cake cover, commercial fondant isn't available in my area which is why I opted to make my own.
then, i printed out the shirt design and with an x-acto knife, cut out death along with his robe. After this, i placed grayish brown fondant mixed with gumpaste under the improvised stencil and cut out all the unnecessary parts. I did the same thing for every intricate part.
for the main cake body, after covering the cake, i airbrushed the top portion with yellow and painted in brown streaks. I then assembled the figures as accurately as i could on top of the cake and used food coloring to paint in the minor details.
To finish the cake, i chose to color the margin with black food coloring and pipe in yellow royal icing to add to the design. I immediately regretted that decision, seeing as it took the focus away from the main design. So i airbrushed gold food coloring on top of it, in an effort shift the focus back. In the end, it looked kinda good and i hope i did the design some justice.
