Description
This is my first time entering Threadcakes, it took me weeks to decide the right design for me.
Wanted to do a fun/humorous one and in 3D. And i came across with "Freddie Mercury", whom i adore.
First sketched out my design with measurements, planned the structure/supports, background and the elements.
Used chocolate mud cake because it is yummy and sturdy, preferred to make milk/dark chocolate ganache mix for filling the layers to get an extra strength.
Once the cake puzzle is assembled, whole cake was ganached and chilled in the fridge. Then covered it in base colour fondant. Once it's settled, carried on with the rest of the details. Lettering and numbers were done by hand (no cutters or tappit were used). Also to get the cartoony feel, I hand shaped long strips of black fondant to all contours.
Freddie Mercury is all edible except the structure and cardboards in between cake layers.
The decoration part of this cake took about 12 hours in total; the cake structure, assembly and ganaching took about 4.
