Description
This is my first year entering into the Threadless cake contest. It was a huge blast and was way intense! The whole process took about four days.
After baking, chilling, and cutting two 9x13" chocolate cakes, I soaked them in a honey and chocolate liqueur syrup. I iced them with a light blue vanilla buttercream and topped it with a dark navy fondant, icing the sides with a dark teal buttercream.
Next I took the awesome Popoki design and cut out each element from fondant. Then I began the interesting and experimental process of layering the fondant pieces and painting them with a mixture of gel colour and vodka. For every elevated layer I made a tiny support of cut up fondant behind it.
I love baking and painting so this was extremely fun! I wasn't always sure it would work, but here we are!
Thank you to Threa
