Description
This is my first time to enter a cake in Threadcakes, I've wanted to do this ever since I first found out about it. And I'm coming in pretty close to the edge with the deadline!
I've always loved this ElectriciTree design. Something about it just makes me so happy!
I was going to go bigger, but because I waited until the last minute, I just couldn't.
The cake was cookies n' cream and chocolate with chocolate buttercream. I filled and stacked the cakes and gave them a light crumb coat, then let it chill. Then I took it out and carved the main tree shape.
The cake is covered in a mix of black fondant and black candy clay, textured and hand-painted with edible glow-in-the-dark paints!
The "lights" on the tree are modeling chocolate dipped in flavored gelatin, which is also tinted with the same GITD paint. The child figures are made with black candy clay and hand-painted as well. There are also a few gelatin bubbles placed in the branches to diffuse the light - provided by a small bulb - at the back of the tree.
I'm so glad I finally got a chance to make this cake. I've wanted to for so long. It's really too bad my kids are in bed 'cause I'm gonna eat this cake all by myself!
