Hillaryous cake by Sharon Siriwardena

Description

I used a skull mold to make the base of the head. It was made using chocolate. For the structure I used a masonite board and attached a pvc pipe to the flange. The chocolate skull was there after attached to the pvc pipe. I followed food safety methods by nicely washing the pvc pipes and made sure all metal fitting didnot touch the cakes. Thereafter I used modelling chocolate to model the face. Some details on the hair, teeth and lips were done using fondant. The eye balls are edible chocolate but the irises are tiny doll eyes. Thought of using them to give the sculpture a more dramatic and realistic look. Since this was a small bust sculpture I only used a 6inch cake and an 8 inch cake. I stacked and doweled the cakes and thenI carved it. I used cake pop mix to form the shoulders and hands. The details on her clothes were done using a mix of modelling chocolate and fondant. The wording Hilarious was a print and I added the wording using modelling chocolate. It The background was a paper print attached to a board to give an illusion of the word "Ha ,ha ha" . I liked how it looked prior to dusting the face to give it more diamention. The cake was cut after I dusted it with petal dust and added a little bit more detail to her facial features. After I finished dusting I felt that a plain white background would bring out the portrait more. I enjoyed making it since it had a whimsical happy feeling to it. I love my creations dearly as it is a piece of artwork to me. Hope u like it too.
