Description
Ron Swanson. The man. The legend. Am I right? The choice of design was a daunting task... however, it actually came pretty easily; I happen to be binge watching Parks and Rec right now so it was an obvious sign. I was drawn to the “Grand Canyon” design by SirMitchell.
Design chosen – time to cake!
The cake I made was a vanilla and pumpkin spice Madeira; layered and covered with white chocolate ganache, yum! For the structure I took a wooden cake dowel cut it in two and glued it to a board. I also glued a small cardboard coin onto the dowels to assist in holding up the proportionately enormous head. From there I used coloured fondant to make the pants and shoes. I could have done the same for the body considering the size, but, instead I made the smallest layer cake ever (about an inch and a half). The body is covered in red fondant with matching fondant arms. I hand painted the darker red stripes on. The head was carved into a ball and covered in ganache; I also used modelling chocolate to make a nose and simple facial structure. I then covered in the appropriately coloured fondant, added the face line work and a little colour dust for the rosy nose and cheeks. Lastly all of the outlines and detail line work – that is what took the longest! In total it took about 8 hours.
And just like that it’s over... but I’m not sad; as Ron says, it’s only okay to cry at funerals, and... The Grand Canyon!
Until next year, Threadcakes :)?
