Description
I’ve always been a big fan of cartoons, so as soon as I saw Popeye I knew this design would be the one. Moreover, who doesn’t like a strong man who eats his spinach.
The cake is a simple vanilla butter sponge, masked and filled with pure chocolate ganache. For the structure I used a threaded rod, on which Popeye is folded and supports the cake. As the bottom of the spinach can I used a dummy, so it could carry the weight of the cake. On top of the dummy a washer and a piece of board was attached. To keep it food save a cakeboard and straw was added to avoid contact with the wooden board and the threaded rod. The skirt of Olive was partly made out of modelling chocolate and an iron frame. Further, all the details and covering of the cake was done with fondant. The final design was approximately 45 centimeters in height, with a cake for about 16 people.
I’m really glad with my first entry, and learned so much (….how not to do it next time).
