Maleficent and All Her Beauty cake by Seema Acharya

Description

Hi everyone,
This design was an easy pick. After watching the disney movie Maleficient sometime back, I so wanted to cake it and finally got the opportunity right here!

Firstly, prepped up the two boards: one covered in white fondant for background and the other covered in black fondant for the base. I also added feet for the base board and glued couple of square cardboard pieces at the center for added support for the center wooden dowel.
Flavors used were vanilla bean butter cake filled with dutch chocolate buttercream and then covered in chocolate expresso ganache with a splash of rum...yummm! Cake was baked in a 13X9 pan and then cut into smaller rectangles and circles to stack up the layers. A cardboard was used in the middle to support the head. A 9 gauge aluminum wire was wound around the wooden dowel to support the horns.
For the characters shadow on her shoulders, I used black fondant mixed with tylose, traced, cut it and let it to dry. Next day, I worked on her face….which took foreverrrr….!!! I used modelling chocolate for the horns and some basic facial features. Then covered her face with a 50:50 mix of green fondant and modelling chocolate. Finally finished it with some edible white/black paint and black fondant branches and creepers.
Overall, it took me 20hrs spread over 4 days from start to finish (baking to cake cutting)!
Hope you like it!!
