A Banana Slipping on a Banana Peel cake by Genna Hebert

Description

Well I started out by shopping for all the ingredients, full of excitement at the prospect of working with gum paste for the first time, little did I know what I was in for. :)
I started off on a Tuesday working with the gum paste, I used the yellow icing color and molded the small banana and the large banana body. Next came the legs, eyes and hands.
I left that to dry and then on Friday night I started baking the cakes for the platform. While doing that I worked on the shoes for my banana man, and did the final touches on the banana.
Saturday morning I shaved the tops of the cakes and placed lemon curd in between the two layers. My best friend came over later that day (she has a cake on here too) and we finished it up in a nice little decorating party. I covered the cake in the icing then placed the fondant over the cake and smoothed it out. I had purchased a black spray on icing for the cake (to make it look like a road...I mean where else are you going to slip on a banana peel?) But that was less than....black, more of a scary gray with a not so nice overspray, but some thinned out black icing and a paint brush came to the rescue for the pavement on a rainy day look. Perfect for our poor banana's fall.
Then next came the placement of Mr. Banana (I called him George) and his unfortunate banana peel.
Then we cur into the cake and my step dad dug in, and I got to snack on the shoe :)
Hope my little cake journey makes you smile, I had a blast doing it.
