Nostalgia cake by Gwen McTaggart

Description

We voted on the cake flavor and decided on a chocolate cake. It's an amazing tasting cake... oh goodness... amazing... you can see the recipe and step by step pictures of the process here... http://spoodlesrambles.blogspot.com/2009/07/what-kind-of-cake-do-you-make-for.html That was a different cake though... just so you know... :-)

So after we made the batter and baked the darn thing I left Bre, my lovely kitchen fairy who is fourteen years old, to watch it, take it out, invert it, let it cool and cut it into the shapes we needed while I left with my wonderful amazing husband (who cleans up my kitchen messes...) to go to MEC because I had a major UTI ... sorry if that's too much information... hehe... She did an amazing job if I do say so myself. Because the trip to MEC took 3 stinkin' hours we were too exhausted to finish it. We lovingly wrapped the cake up and kissed it goodnight.

The next day Bre and I made some fondant-like buttercream... an experiment we've been working on... we like to experiment... it's a pain to work with, much harder than fondant but it tastes almost exactly like regular buttercream. None of us can stand the taste of fondant, personally, I feel like cakes should taste good as well as look good or there really isn't a point... right? So anyway, we made the icing, colored it, draped it over the pieces, arranged them and decorated them with regular buttercream.

I had to fight off the hungry mob in order to take pictures... I kid you not... it was ridiculous... and then we ate and enjoyed and it was oh so good.
