Prey for Me cake by Kirsten Zimmerman

Description

I remember going to the beach as a kid and always fearing I'd dive into a wave only to find a shark waiting to eat me on the other side. That's what this t-shirt reminded me of, so I thought it would make a great cake too.
Because carving the cake into a wave would be a little tricky, I decided to go with a whipping cream pound cake recipe. I used ganache for the filling to help add to the stability of the cake. I used good old vanilla buttercream for the frosting.
I first tried making the shark out of modeling chocolate, but I couldn't get it quite right and ended up scratching that idea. I resorted to using marshmallow fondant and sprayed it with black color mist. I used red food coloring to outline the jaw. The fish were made from melted chocolate with a little food coloring and luster dust. The whole process took me two days, somewhere between 10-12 hours. I got to share the cake with my family and neighbors, who all reassured me that it was pretty tasty.
