Test Pattern cake by Kerry Forsyth

Description

I used two boxes of white cake mix and made two sheet cakes. I froze them to make it easier to ice. I cut them into thirds and stacked four of the cut pieces. Then I used a serrated knife to straighten out the edges. I made three batches of icing. One I left white, one I made black, and the other I split up to be the colors on the screen. I used gel food coloring for vibrance and a wilton black icing color. I crumbed the cake with white icing and put it in the freezer to set. After that I iced the cake entirely black, and cut out a square in the center to make room for the colored stripes. I used a tiny spatula and a cheese knife to spread on the colors and spread the colors around the front of the cake haphazardly. After that I used a paper towel to flatten everything out (even though it was pattern so it left a neat pattern on the cake). This process was done over 3 days, and in between I froze the cake to keep it fresh. Also, the frozen cake was easier to carve and ice. All together it had to be well over six hours of work, but I assume six hours is the minimum it took.
