Description
This was my first time ever making or using fondant. It was with childish glee that I mixed together melted mini-marshmallows and a mountain of confectioner's sugar with my hands. It was such a fun, sticky mess- maybe the best part of the whole process. Making and dying the fondant took an hour or so.
The cake itself, I confess, is a box cake. I did one from scratch initially, but the weather was against me, and the cake wasn't structurally fit to be decorated. (It was still tasty, though.) I decided to go with yellow cake, since it's my favorite.
I've also never tried to do anything 3D before. Admittedly, the space ship isn't much, but I like the effect.
Anyway, this is what happens when an out-of-work physicist bakes a threadless cake! If only space were always so sweet to me...
