Description
As soon as I heard about the Threadcakes contest, I immediately set to work on thinking/designing about what Threadless design I would do and how I could make it out of cake in the hopes of proving my love for all things Threadless. It took some time in choosing the ideal design, one I've always enjoyed and one that tons of people probably wouldn't be doing. Hence the choice of the "Eclipse!" design.
I bought all the supplies and drew out how it would look in 3D, etc. I did get a bit discouraged as I gazed upon all of the AMAZING entries already in the gallery from my competition. But, I pushed through and decided even if I didn't come close to winning anything, I was having fun making the cake! (That's what losers say, huh? :( oh well)
Finally, I had a week where I didn't have things to distract me from the glorious making of said Threadless cake. I figured it'd take me two nights to make: One to bake all the cakes, the other to decorate them all. Boy, was I sorely mistaken. (I had made the chocolate covered pretzels a few nights before hand.) The actual assembly and decorating took two nights.
I had never worked with fondant before (I'm new to this whole cake decorating thing), and it took me forever to get it the right color and then roll it out. Ahhh... experience, tis a wonderful thing.
(Side note: I wore a different Threadless shirt for every night that I worked on the cake, you know, for motivation!)
But, to make a long story short (too late...), I finally completed my masterpiece, despite having to run to the store for more icing (didn't buy enough the first time) and the teasing from my family, mainly my siblings that it didn't look like the design.
It didn't last long, though. It wasn't but 10 minutes after I had finished (luckily after I had taken pictures already)that my family descended upon the cake like children to the toy section at the store. I guess cake was meant to be eaten... Let them eat cake! (was delicious, thankfully)
