So this cake took me forever like 3-4 weeks, maybe because I got swine flu (or just the flu) during the process and had to stop for awhile or because I work a lot. But I started by making all of the figurines on the top out of fondant and worked on that for about a week or so, coloring, shaping and adding the details. Then i moved on to actually baking the cake. I decided to bake a graham cracker cake with a mocha whipped filling and a mocha buttercream icing, all hand made. I had never baked this cake nor had I ever made home made buttercream, but it all turned out really good. This cake was very dense and so it did not rise and that just meant I ended up having to bake four cakes to get the height that I wanted so the lettering would be seen enough. And then i just put it all together, unfortunately running a little short on fondant at the last second. To celebrate, I was going to bring it to my friend's birthday party being held in downtown Columbia, MO, but instead I was thoroughly surprised when my mom threw me a surprise 20th birthday party on the same day, with the cake being the main dessert. Exciting, but I think I was gipped, I made my own birthday cake. Either way, it was dang good and huge and I still have some left over in my fridge if anyone wants me to send them any, airmail style.
