Description
I made this yellow cake from scratch with a recipe I found online, and let it cool. I cut in half and layered it with chocolate buttercream frosting, then froze it so it'd be easier to carve the letters. While it was in the freezer I drew and cut out letters the right size to use as guides. I carved out "piece" in the cake first, then frosted and sculpted the tops of the letters. I kept freezing the cake whenever it started to get too soft to work. I then iced the "cake" end, froze it (yet again), and carved the frosting. Then to finish it, the cherry is actually a potato painted with red food coloring and the string of a redvine pull-apart attached with part of a tooth-pick to form the stem. Why a potato? 'Cause I wanted the cherry to be to scale, and I saw the potatoes at the store, so I got one (cost me 6 whole cents).
