For my second Threadcake, I decided to go the easier 2-D route because I played to make EVERYTHING from scratch. And because I was going through this weird pirate phase and eye patches tend to limit your depth perception.
The cake itself is a pineapple pound cake, which, surprisingly enough, weighed more than a pound. The icing was Wilton's buttercream recipe except that, instead of adding a few teaspoons of vanilla, I added lots and lots of pina colada mixer. I used a homemade marshmallow fondant, then dyed it yellow, teal, and red. I then cut out all the pieces, and outlined them with black gel dye.
Most of the process was done in a day, with the cake and fondant made beforehand so they could freeze/set. The cake was delicious, the icing was delectable and the fondant was pure sugary magic.
