Well, This Just Really Sucks...

Description
The cake itself was chocolate with white chocolate chips. I used a homemade buttercream frosting for a crumb-coat and to help with the fondant.
I made the scrabble tiles first...being really super anal about the exact shade, I went and grabbed my scrabble set and matched the wood (This contest IS about having a lot of free time, right?). The tile holder thingie (I'm sure it has an official name...it MUST) took the longest, but armed with some wooden skewers and about an hour of some fabulous train-wreck TV (those poor sextuplets...) I had the shape done.
A little black icing here....a little fondant fix there...and voila. Cake.
I think the cake itself took about a day from start to finish..not too shabby considering the pesky full time job and all....
My colleagues at work were thrilled at the idea that I'd entered a cake contest, since SOMEONE has to eat the cake....They were a little weirded out by the fondant (who the heck hasn't heard of fondant? I think I had to explain it 10 times, including having to look it up to make sure it was kosher...)...They were a little puzzled at the design. A few people sort of stared at it for a few minutes, squinted...and said "Scrabble, right?"...But I will give credit to most, as they figured out just why the hand dealt really did suck. I explained the contest, which kind of confused some...but they got the general gist. Oh..and it did taste pretty nifty (though one can only eat so much fondant...I had a little)
My daughter did not help me with this cake...but she has picked some other designs, so she promises that she will help in the future (I dunno...)
