Super Mega Fun cake by Charlene Miller

Description

I made this cake for Ruby's 21st birthday. On one side of the truck there's ice cream showing the sweet, innocent side of youth. The other side of the truck reflects her 21st birthday so there's mixed drinks, beer, liquor - all sorts of alcohol (even the sun is holding a martini). Everyone loved the cake. It looked like a drunken cake/truck wreck by the time I left and they were still eating!

The cake itself is a deep, rich chocolate cake with strong coffee, Maker's Mark, & Brandy baked in. I brushed strawberry simple syrup between the layers, along with vanilla buttercream, after which I covered the cake with fondant. Most of the decorations were cut out of fondant, then painted, and "glued" on with vodka. I made the wheels of the cake out of Kitchen Sink Cookies (include everything but the kitchen sink) covered with fondant. I "glued" them on with royal icing. The ice cream cone on top is carved out of pound cake and covered in fondant. It was a busy day making this cake, but fun and the end result was enjoyed by the birthday girl, her friends, and her family. It made her smile and what better reason can anyone have to make a cake!
