Description
Well, this cake was quite the adventure for me! I began with a brown sugar pound cake. I greatly misjudged the amount of batter and got an entire extra 13X9" sheet cake our of the deal. The cake ended up being absolutely delicious- thank you Paula Deen. After baking and cooling three round cakes, I mimicked my cake idol, Duff Goldman, and dirty iced the cakes with buttercream. Next came my horrific first experience with fondant. After an absolute failure covering the cakes, I decided to just use good old fashioned buttercream that I dyed light purple. I then used sprinkles to make a starburst-esque design. To create the donut, I used a Krispy Kreme donut that I painted with pink buttercream and covered with sprinkles. For the ice cream cone, I sculpted a rice krispy treat and covered it with buttercream and sprinkles. I secured my characters with toothpicks for support. The cake isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I had a blast making it and learned how not to cover a cake with fondant.
